Introduction
The Painting program at Keimyung University was established in 1972 as one of the first art programs under the Department of Fine Arts. It maintained a strong reputation in the field following the model of Professor Jeong Jeom-shik, who was the pioneer of abstract painting in Korea. Graduates include many well-known hyperreal painters, impressionist painters, portrait painters, and installation artists.
Currently the department consists of five full-time faculty members and three adjunct professors sharing their expertise in oil painting, digital painting, printmaking, and art history. The curriculum is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in drawing, painting, and material use. It also intends to introduce students to various methodologies and investigation techniques to reveal changing views of humanity and of the world which will help to develop student' s own artistic perspective. Approximately 180 students are enrolled under the program. The study can be continued to Graduate programs in painting or art history which are also available under the university.
